René Descartes FATHER OF MODERN WESTERN PHILOSOPHY De scartes refused to accept the authority of previous philosophers. He frequently set his views apart from those of his predecessors. In the opening section of the Les passions de l'âm e.  Many elements of his philosophy have precedents in late Aristotelianism , the revived Stoicism of the 16th century, or in earlier philosophers like Augustine . Being Resilient

Being “resilient”? Resiliency is the ability to become strong again after something bad happens such as that of a rubber band. We, humans, should be change adept for us to adapt easily. First I would like to congratulate each and every one before me today for being resilient and being able to adapt in this world full of miseries, insecurities, and unfortunate events. Congrats! You’re living life itself. “Conquer yourself, not the world” as Rene Descartes once said. The first time I’ve heard this, I’ve been confused. It was stuck on my mind for quite long. I was confused on how to relate it to my life and to one’s life. And then it hit me; majority of us have been through a lot of ups and downs. Flaws, doubts, and insecurities, we’ve all been there.
